Harvest Story: So to start the story off, I’m 8 1/2 months pregnant. I have been hunting all season just trying to kill a mature deer. I have been hunting this particular spot the past few days with no luck but a lot of close encounters. Today was one of those days That looked like there was no chance. It was raining cats and dogs. I had to walk a half a mile into my stand through mud and what felts like ponds. As I’m walking into my stand, I see deer all around me. I see two mature bucks and I’m bouncing on both sides of the tree line, just trying to get to my stand without them seeing me. I call my husband and he said “stop trying to be stealthy and just get to your stand.” So that’s what I did. I wasn’t in my stand 30 seconds before I see a little buck that I had seen previously start coming towards me. I didn’t think much of it until I looked behind him and see a much bigger buck (Squiggles) headed my way. I quickly pulled up my bow, I had the bow hoist that I used to pull it up, wrapped all around it, and I actually had to start shoving the string in my mouth just to get it out of the way. But here he comes, I tried to get him to stop, but he wouldn’t stop. I pull up my crossbow, put the crosshairs right on his shoulder and let the bolt fly. I didn’t quite see where I hit him, but he went 20 yards and fell over. I’ve never been more ecstatic then I was right then deer hunting. After a long season, I finally got it done. And now it’s time for baby to come.
