Harvest Story: This buck means the world to me and my nephew Jase. After 4 years of history and him being a mature deer since we started hunting him. We knew he was at least 7.5 years old this year, or 8.5 if he was indeed 4 years old when we first got knowledge of him. We called him DG, sort for Damn Goodin. Jase has found 5 of his antlers, but couldn’t find any from the last 2 seasons. Jase hunted him hard late last season and didn’t get to punch that tag. After Jase filled his tag on a beautiful 12 pointer, I was so glad to hear that I was up on DG. I couldn’t be happier to have had the chance to harvest this deer. It was my third consecutive evening hunting and him playing a cat and mouse game. He was there every time I wasn’t off and on for 2 weeks. Finally tonight I caught up to him. He came in from the west and he knew something was quite right. He stalled there for under 2 minutes. When he turned around I thought I’d never have a shot, but he continued walking then stopped and I had a small window on his vitals. I let the arrow fly. I heard the smack of the arrow and he instantly lunged forward. He started a half oriented hop through the thick brush and I lost sight of him in a big clump of honey suckle. I got down and checked for blood. It was a great blood trail and he went about 20 yards. After calling in the guys for help. I got to give glory to the man up stairs. I am truly so grateful and feel so blessed to have the opportunity to hunt Whitetail deer in Kansas with my Nephew.
