Harvest Story: This whole week in Illinois, the weather has finally been cooling down, with close to freezing temperature overnight. I was highly anticipating leaving work early on Friday to get in the stand, particularly since we had starting seeing more mature bucks moving around during daylight hours. At about 5:30 a nice 10 pointer came down the edge of the cornfield, coming my way. I got ready as he approached, pulling back as he walked passed where a tree was blocking his view to me. I stopped him, and released the arrow at about 18 yards. He ran about 50 yards and crashed in the cornfield. But there’s more to the story, that’s not the buck I’m submitting here. I decided to stay in the stand until dark, even though I know he was dead. In Illinois you can get 2 buck tags. About 20 minutes later I notice another buck coming down the same path as the first, and this one I recognized as a big mature buck that we had pictures of just the day before. He took the same path and I ended up shooting him at almost exactly the same spot as the first. He ran about 80 yards and died. This was truly one of my most excited days bow hunting, with two big bucks down in about 20 minutes.
