Harvest Story: My 6 year old Grandson and I headed out on his 2nd hunt ever. He had actually black racked and grunted in a little 9 point on our first hunt. We hunt the family farm that my family has had for generations. We were sitting the about 4:15 I’d just turned on the buddy heater for him. I see a go hop across the lane about 150 out so I start scanning and see good horns start to come out of brush into lane and I say Lucas good buck. About that time he hopes out heading to the doe that is in the brush other side of lane. I have 30ft to make this decision and I can just really see the right side good and we let her rip. We get to the buck and realize he’s a buck we were going to let go because of age and he’d folded his left 4 over in velvet. To be honest it does add some pretty good character. I had guessed him closer to 140 but often taping him 149.125 will do. We are going to skull mount him onto a plaque with the info and the cartridge casing so one day when him and his grandson hunt the same spot he will remember the story accurately 😁😁 Not the biggest deer I’ve taken but the memory grandson and I made puts it at the top of my list.
