Harvest Story: This morning marked the culmination of two weeks of anticipation and hard work as my husband and I set out on my deer hunt. For the past five years, we’ve been watching this magnificent buck, and after tracking his movements and collecting his last two years of sheds, we felt ready to finally make our move.
We knew this deer had been traveling between different stands, so we took a calculated risk in selecting the right spot. As the sun began to rise and the woods came alive with the sounds of nature, my heart racing with excitement and hope.
The thrill of the hunt is always a mix of patience and adrenaline, and this morning was no exception. I watched as the light filtered through the trees, knowing that every rustle could signal the arrival of our elusive target. The anticipation built, and I couldn’t help but think back on all the moments leading up to this day—the sheds, the sightings, and the countless hours spent in the woods.
Then I caught a glimpse of movement. My heart skipped a beat as I turned to see the magnificent buck stepping into a clearing. Time seemed to slow as I steadied my breath and focused on the shot. I watched as the buck staggered before disappearing into the brush. A wave of emotions washed over me—excitement, disbelief, and gratitude. After a few moments of silence, we gathered my gear and began the search, following the signs with renewed hope. It wasn’t long before we found him, and in that moment, all the hard work, patience, and dedication paid off. This was more than just a hunt; it was the culmination of years of watching, waiting, and learning.
