Harvest Story: We let this deer get a pass last year and it turned out to be a great choice. Had this buck daylighting starting a week before the opener on a brassica plot. The first three days of bow season had the worst possible wind direction for access and stand location. Slipped in clean on the fourth day with good wind. Had a forked, doe, and twin fawns come in with an hour left of legal shooting light. Was watching them do what they do and he came crashing in the plot with six minutes left of legal shooting light. Drew back on him hard quartering away. Had to look outside of my peep twice to make sure that was him in the scope at 12 yards. After deciding that was him behind the pin, I let the Mathews V3 sing. Easton Axis 260 entered center mass of the rib cage on the right side and stopped at the offside shoulder. No exit wound but entry was eight inches long from the Sevr 1.75. Didn’t start getting blood until about 30 yards from shot location. Once I did get blood, it was a very easy track job. He bolted 100 yards total and piled up in a barbed wire fence on the edge of the property. Loaded him up in the truck and headed another property where a buddy had shot a buck the same night. Unforgettable night and a hunt that will be etched in my memories forever.
